There are many types
of roofing solutions and products available these days so lets
look at a few. The IBR profile is one of the most commonly used
on roof sheets and is available in a thickness of 0.53 and 0.58mm.
Aluminium, steel and galvanized roof sheets use this profile. Although
galvanized and steel roof sheet s are much cheaper than aluminium
sheets aluminium sheets do last much longer and doesnt lose
its color as quickly neither. Aluminium roof sheets also known as
Zincalume is much more durable than steel and doesnt need
to be painted with a UV resistant paint like Silvacote to protect
it.
All though Silvacote
is a really great product you still need to refurbish your roof
sheets once every 5-7 years. Silvacote does however protect sheets
from becoming really hot and you can also use it on waterproofing
membranes to protect them against UV rays. Colorbond which is Zincalume
color roof sheet range has a special paint that gets sprayed onto
the roof sheet. Colorbond roof sheets last up to 25 years before
the color starts looking ugly faded and all sheets fade the same
amount. Zincalume is a great product with attributes in it that
gives the aluminium a life span of between 20 and 30 years.
This was test in a open
area next to the ocean in an marine environment. Although Zincalume
has a aluminium color the Colorbond comes in many deferent shades
and finishes. Zincalume and Colorbond are both aluminium based.
Unlike steel sheets that have a thickness of 0.53mm and 0.58mm Zincalume
is only available in a thickness of 0.53mm. Because Zincalume is
made up of aluminium roofing contractors need to use a certain roof
bolt to fix the roof sheet down with.
One of the biggest mistakes
roofing contractors make is when they use cheap hammer in roof bolts
and doing things cheap doesnt pay off in the long run. The
reason Im so against those cheap roof nails is because they
always pull lose from the roof truss and your roof sheet either
ends up blowing off or water seeps in under it into your house.
The other biggie is that the self sealing washer which is suppose
to do its job leaks and has to be resealed with a Bitumen Plastic
tar paste.
The best roof bolts
on the market by a long mile are the Class 3 Self drillers and just
saying that name gives me Goosebumps. They are the best and thats
just it, nothing more to say. The Class 3 Self drillers has a small
self sealing washer which you think wont even do the job but
the deference is its made of rubber not plastic so when it
seals it seals.
Class 3 Self drillers
are also made to work with Zincalume roof sheets so neither of the
tow rust. If you are a roofing contractor or just a diy enthusiast
and would like to do your own roof I would strongly suggest you
use this product. It will simplify your life so much.
