So let's look at the deferent roofing solutions you get on the market. One of the most commonly we roof sheets is the IBR profile. This profile is available in steel sheets, galvanized sheet and aluminium roof sheets. Steel sheet and galvanized IBR roof sheets are more cost effective than aluminium sheets. Steel roof sheet aren't very durable when it comes to the elements like wind, rain and sun so it needs to be painted with a substrate called Silvacote. Silvacote is an ABE product that is made of a aluminium liquid paste. This liquid once stirred becomes a think silver mold that is then painted onto the steel roof sheet.

For roofing purposes this liquid is magical. It reflects the sun's UV rays preventing the roof sheets from heating up too much and melting the waterproofing membranes. Silvacote is also used on waterproofing membranes itself for UV protection.A roofing product that I really like is the aluminium roof sheet called Zincalume or Colorbond. Zincalume is a hybrid product that last 20-30 years longer than any roof sheet on the market.

Zincalume is available without any color where Colorbond comes in a variety of colors but is also aluminuim based. Unlike galvanized roof sheets that are 0.53mm and 0.58mm think Zincalume roof sheets only has a thickness of 0.53mm. Unlike painted roof sheets Colorbond sheets also doesn't lose its color very quickly. Not only that there are no lines painted on the sheets that are formed from a paintbrush. This is because Colorbond roof sheets are sprayed in a factory when manufactured. When fixing roof sheets to roof trusses the right kind of roof bolt needs to be used with the appropriate roof sheet. Most roofing contractors just use the regular roof nail that can just be hammered in.

The problem with those roof nails is that they eventually pull loose from all the weathering like you would pull out a nail and the roof bolt washers start to crack and leak too. Class 3 Self drillers are the best to use when fixing down roof sheets and they also don't rust. Class three roof bolts are perfect for Zincalume roof sheets as they complement one another. If you use a normal steel roof bolt to fix down a Zincalume roof sheet and it starts to rust the Zincalume sheet will sacrifice itself on the spot where the roof bolt is rusting to prevent the rust from spreading quickly.

This will put allot of strain on the roof sheet and eventually burn a corroded hole in the roof sheet. If you are roofing contractor or would like to replace your own roof I recommend you use Zincalume. While it cost a bit more it will save you allot of hassles in the future.
